Whizzer A-HE03 Kylin Review: Cozy Intra-Channel Hybrid Headphones

Whizzer has already managed to “light up” in the circles of lovers of high-quality sound thanks to its first two models Whizzer A15 and A15 Pro, which we have already managed to visit. These were models with dynamic radiators, a removable cable, an interesting design and a very good sound for their money. The new model Whizzer A-HE03 Kylin has received a hybrid emitter circuit, an expected expansion line. The model also has a completely affordable price tag, both for its characteristics. Let’s see how interesting it turned out.

What is it and how are they interesting?
Whizzer’s previous models were dynamic; Kylin A-HE03 was the company’s first hybrid in-ear headphones. Creating hybrids is not a trivial task and it is not always possible to obtain a harmonious combination of dynamic and reinforcing emitters at the output. Headphones combine 10 mm dynamic emitters with beryllium spraying and twin knowles reinforcement emitters. A-HE03 Kylin, like previous models, are made of metal, in this case aluminum alloy. The cable is removable, but this time they decided to use not MMCX, but two-pin 0.78 mm connectors. BTE is provided only for wearing.

What is in the box?
Headphones are delivered in a large beautiful box with a bunch of printing with images of headphones, a diagram of their internal structure and technical characteristics. Under the outer wrapper of soft white cardboard – a hard black box with the headphones themselves and a set. In the box – the headphones themselves, a removable braided cable, 3 pairs of silicone and 2 pairs of foam ear cushions, a hard round case for storage and transportation and documentation

What is with the design and construction?

Headphones are made of metal with a barely noticeable, fine concentric grinding. We have been relatively neutral dark gray, but there are brighter blues and reds. On the outer part is the embossed Whizzer golden logo, which is already well recognized after previous models. The shape of the headphones has changed a bit, let’s see how it affected the convenience.

At the end of the headphones are visible seams connecting the two halves of cases. On the inside of the headphones – the designation of the left and right headphones and small compensation holes:

The sound guides are made of copper. This, according to the developers, should improve the reproduction of low frequencies. They are covered with nets and have a rather large diameter of 6 mm, definitely larger than the standard ones. There is a rim around the perimeter for better fixation of the nozzles.
Just above the cable connector you can see another compensation hole. With MMCX connectors, apparently decided to finish the experiments. And they began experiments with two-pin connectors of 0.78 mm. By itself, a replaceable cable with such connectors is not a problem to find, but it is worth considering that such connectors have a different profile. In this case, it is round, there are rectangular. The hooks on the cable are not removable, but they are made very well. They are soft, easily take the desired shape.
Braided cable is made of silver plated oxygen free copper (OFC + SPC). He is not too fat, soft and not confused. There is a metal cable divider, a 3.5-mm connector and a metal corner. On the right 0.78-mm connector there is a red dot, so as not to confuse the left with the right.

Like the previous models of the manufacturer, Whizzer A-HE03 Kylin is made with high quality and very stylish look. But, taking into account the past models, there are more questions to the convenience and fit. About it further

How comfortable and what’s soundproofed?
Over the form Whizzer A-HE03 Kylin worked very well, but the questions still remained. On the one hand, they are light, their bodies are small and there are no problems with long wearing, they do not cause discomfort, they are not tight and do not rub anywhere. Including, this is facilitated by extremely successful ears, which perfectly fix the headphones. They have no memory effect, they are not fixed in a certain position, but due to their elasticity this is not necessary
Anatomy – a very individual thing, as well as preferences for landing in the auricle. And if sometimes the most successful options come up that suit almost everyone (for example, MEE Audio models), then Whizzer A-HE03 Kylin is definitely worth trying on before a probable purchase. They didn’t “come to me”: it wasn’t possible to achieve a comfortable deep landing with both complete and third-party ear cushions. Like the right level of sound insulation. Not everything is so bad: it is at a very good level, but it would be better, especially since it is quite possible. On the street and in public transport is quite good, but in the subway noise is heard too well.
